As we are in the bulk of the winter months, stress and fatigue begin to build up. Finding motivation can be hard when it feels like there is such a long road ahead. Everyone on our team has their own personal motivation, that helps them through the winter months, and we thought we would share some with you.

  1. Enjoy the little things

At the pool our team enjoys the little moments we have together. Being with your teammates, getting a good workout in, seeing the sunset out the pool window and the coaches giving us an extra five minutes for break. These are all things that make us smile during training. It is important to find the good moments, and to enjoy the small things during training.

  1. Set goals

Setting goals is very important in every sport, especially synchro! Setting weekly goals gives you something to strive towards each week. Accomplishing these goals you will make you feel rewarded and proud of yourself; it is also important to set a long-term goal. Where do you want synchro to take you? This may be the Olympics, university, or even coaching. Wherever it may be it is important to write down where you want to go. If you are ever feeling down or going through a rough patch during training just remember your long-term goal. Remind yourself that the hard work you put into training will get you to where you want to be.

  1. Recognize your progress

Sometimes it can feel like you are just repeating things over and over for no reason. Take a moment to look back on how far you’ve come and how hard you’ve worked. Think about the goals you’ve set in the past and how great it’s felt to achieve them.

Everyone needs to find their own personal way to motivate themselves. These are some of the ways that the RTC Ontario stays motivated and we hope that you will find your motivation too.  If you persevere through the hard times you will achieve your dreams.
